Templeton, Richard Harkness, 1877-1952.

Templeton was U.S. District Attorney for western New York, and served on the Buffalo Port Authority. Collection includes correspondence, 1917-1951; manuscripts of writings, 1899-1952; published materials, 1924-1947; photographs; and material on the University of Buffalo (where Templeton was a lecturer), 1907-1952. Other subjects include Allegany State Park, the Buffalo Port Authority, prohibition, and Republican politics in the Buffalo area. Correspondents include Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., S. Wallace Dempsey, James Wadsworth, and Mabel W. Willebrandt.

Johnson, George F., 1857-1948.

Papers of the American industrialist, business executive. President of Endicott-Johnson Corporation. Finding aid includes a personal recollection from his daughter, Lillian Johnson Sweet. Correspondence, incoming and outgoing (1900-1945); financial records (1892-1938); articles and speeches (1920-1967); pamphlets, broadsides and posters (1910-1953); blueprints, scrapbooks, photographs, and other material relating to Endicott-Johnson Corporation and Johnson's philosophy of industrial democracy and labor-management relations.

Osborne family.

Encompasses the records of three generations of the Osborne family of Auburn, N.Y. Thomas Mott Osborne, son of businessman David Munson Osborne, was associated with Democratic politics, philanthropy, and social reform, especially prison reform. He was a trustee and later president of the George Junior Republic in Freeville, New York. In 1913, he was appointed chairman of the New York State Commission on Prison Reform. His third son, Lithgow, served in the foreign service in Germany from 1914-1917, and later in Havana, Copenhagen, and Norway. He subsequently left government service to pursue a career in newspaper publishing with the Auburn Citizen-Advertiser. Collection includes correspondence (1812-1968); speeches (1895-1945); legal and financial papers (1786-1962); organizational records (1813-1967); memorabilia (1845-1965); diaries (1843-1946), and other material.

Papers of the American clergyman, educator. Chaffee was a Presbyterian minister in New York City. Correspondence, letters to magazines to which Chaffee contributed, notes, sermons, scrapbooks, diaries, and published material. Sermons (1914-1936) include such topics as religion, specifically Christianity, and its relationship to politics, labor, technocracy, war, pacifism, communism, and socialism.

Papers of the American painter, humanitarian. The collection includes artwork reproductions, correspondence subject files, memorabilia and writings, much of which deal with Weston's work in various organizations, including the Adirondack Trail Improvement Society, the American Federation of Arts, the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors, Food for Freedom, the International Association of the Plastic Arts of Plastic Arts, the National Council on the Arts and Government and the United Nations. The collection provides a detailed look at the lobbying efforts to create the National Endowment for the Arts as well as development of post-World War Two international cooperation in the arts.

Browder, Earl, 1891-1973.

Papers of the General secretary of the Communist Party of the United States from 1930 through its dissolution in 1944. When the Party was reconstituted as the Communist Political Association later that year, Browder was chosen as its President, however he was expelled in 1946 following a debate over Party leadership. Following his expulsion, Browder lectured and wrote about Marxism and represented Soviet writers and publishers for publication in the United States. Collection includes correspondence/subject files (1879-1970) relating to Marxist philosophy, the workings of the C.P.U.S.A., Browder's role within the Party and to Browder's business ventures as well as legal files (1938-1958); manuscripts (1924-1967) of Browder and others, including Browder's manuscripts for articles, books, memoranda, news releases, pamphlets, reports, and speeches; and memorabilia including personal files and photographs of Browder and his family, and some colleagues.
